Colin Steele’s Kings of Swing


Trumpeter Colin Steele has pulled together a stellar line up of the very best and most swinging Scottish jazz musicians for this year’s ELX. Playing classic jazz hits from the 30s and 40s from the likes of Louis Armstrong and Benny Goodman, grab your partners and get ready to dance your socks off. 

Colin Steele’s Kings of Swing will be playing on Friday night at Greyfriars Kirk.


New Town Stompers

Welcoming the New Town Stompers to ELX!

Led by Mike Summers, the band draws inspiration from jazz, ragtime and blues, perfect for our Fast Feet Brunch on Saturday morning!

Dust off your dance shoes for a morning of Balboa, Collegiate Shag, Lindy Charleston and other faster dance styles.

Full instrumentation is cornet, clarinet, trombone, banjo/ guitar, tuba, percussion, piano.


Trad Rags Trio

Pioneers of Tenement Jazz Band (Winners of the ‘Best Band’ category at 2022’s Scottish Jazz Awards), Patrick Darley, Simon Toner and Mike Kearney form this off-shoot trio for a more intimate and versatile trad jazz experience. Trad Rags Trio are perfectly suited for swing dances of all shapes and sizes.

The Trad Rags Trio will be playing at the Mound for our outdoor dancing on Saturday of ELX.


The Bills Jones Renaissance Swing Band

We’re delighted to welcome back the Bills Jones Renaissance Swing Band. Featuring some of Scotland’s top jazz talent and specialising in the music of both the trad and swing eras, we promise to entice you onto the dance floor with infectious and swinging music, ideal for Lindy Hop and other dance styles.

Bill Jones Renaissance Swing Band will be playing on Saturday night at Greyfriars Kirk.


Reekie Rhythm Rendevous

Bring your instruments and join our live jam session!

Join local jazz collective, Reekie Rhythm Rendezvous, on Sunday afternoon at Assembly Roxy for a chance to play some classic jazz tunes together.

You’ll be able to register your interest and check out the song list ahead of time.

Don’t play an instrument? No problem. The dancing will continue, but there is also plenty of space for chilling out and/or playing board games if you need some recovery time.


Castle Rock Jazz Band

The Castle Rock Jazz Band are in the business of serving up hot swing music, played by dancers for dancers. They draw influence from the great jazz artists and orchestras of the Swing era, while their experience as dancers ensures that the floor will be kept full all night. When they’re not on the stage, they’re busy jamming, working out new arrangements and throwing down on dance floors in Edinburgh and beyond!

Castle Rock Jazz Band will be playing the Sunday social of ELX at Assembly Roxy.
