Welcome Party

ELX 2024 kicks off with our Welcome Party on Friday evening.

There is no bar at this venue but you can bring your own alcohol.

This floor is a little slippy, so you might want a shoe with a little bit of grip.

We’ll have somewhere you can keep your luggage till the end of the evening. Make sure you arrange to meet up if you’re a host or being hosted by one of our lovely local dancers. 

Fast Feet Social

Time: 10:30 – 13:00

Love balboa? Love shag? Just love fast dancing?? Fully wake yourself up with our Fast Feet Social. We’ll have 2 and a half hours of excellent swing tunes in the higher tempos perfect for balboa and shag, and plenty of tea and coffee to sustain those energy levels.

Procession to the Mound

Time: 13:00 – 13:30

Keep those feet dancing as we all head down to the outdoor music at the Mound.  Join our procession with live music from Greyfriars Kirk to the Mound.

Swing outside at the Mound

Time: 12:45 – 15:30
Venue: The Mound Precinct (beside The National Gallery), EH2 2EL
Band: Colin Steele’s Kings of Swing

Join us for some outdoor dancing to yet another live band in the beautiful Edinburgh sunshine.

We’ll start at 12:45 with a free taster class with some fabulous local teachers before the social dancing starts at 13:15. This is free for all to join and great for beginner level, so please bring your family and friends along. 

Bring your full water bottle as we’re not able to provide water at this venue. This area is very central so there are shops and cafes nearby if you need to purchase refreshments.

Please look after your belongings. There will be an area to put day bags but it’s a public space so don’t bring anything that you value that you are not able to keep on your person.  

Hopefully the sun will shine but on the very slim chance that the weather is not suitable for dancing outdoors, we will remain in Greyfriars Kirk after the Fast Feet Social.  Unfortunately in this case it will be Full and Saturday pass holders only. Keep an eye on our social media for updates and fingers crossed for sunshine!

The ELX Ball

Dress to impress at the main event, our fabulous Saturday night ball! This is our final dance in Greyfriars Kirk so enjoy this beautiful space one last time. Be ready to crank up the energy and swing out hard!

This floor is a little slippy, so you might want a shoe with a little bit of grip.

There is no bar at this venue, but you can bring your own alcohol.

We will be running a limited number of taxis from Greyfriars to the afterparty venue (space for 60). These will be departing at 00:10 and 00:20 and will be on a first come, first served basis.

Blues After Party

Time: 00:00 – 03:00
Venue: South Leith Parish Church Hall, 6 Henderson Street, Edinburgh, EH6 6BS
Band: Nicole Smit and Jed Potts

Blues is back! Continue dancing or come and wind down the night into the wee hours of the morning with the mellow sounds of jazz blues.

**Note that is a change of venue from the one previously advertised**

You might want to bring a change of clothes so you’re comfortable dancing through the night!

Again, there is no bar at this venue. You are welcome to bring your own alcohol, but please limit this to beer and wine; this is a requirement of the venue booking.

Sunday morning meetup

Time: from 11:00
Venue: The Ghillie Dhu, 2 Rutland Place, Edinburgh, EH1 2AD

Come along for informal hang out time from 11:00, and chill out with new pals over a coffee and a board game. The perfect opportunity to spend some time getting to know the excellent people you danced with the night before.

There will be space at the venue to leave luggage, although note that this is at your own risk. Left luggage is also available at Waverley Station.

Live music session

Time: 12:00 – 14:00
Venue: The Ghillie Dhu, 2 Rutland Place, Edinburgh, EH1 2AD

Join local dancers as they swap their dance shoes for their musical instruments. There’s also the option for you to take part – keep your eyes peeled for more information closer to the event.

This activity is open to all, whether a musician or not. There will be space to dance as well as space to chill out and listen. Note that the floor at this venue is quite sticky, so we recommend some of your slippier soles for this dancefloor.

Sunday Tea Dance

Time: 14:00 – 16:30
Venue: The Ghillie Dhu, 2 Rutland Place, Edinburgh, EH1 2AD

After a well-earned rest, and chilled out start to the Sunday, join us at our Sunday afternoon tea party where we’ll have plenty of cake to keep you going! The more bakers the better, so please do bring along some home baking if you can.

All bakers that contribute will automatically be entered into a raffle for a free party pass to EUSDS‘s event, University of Swing.

The floor at this venue is quite sticky, so we recommend some of your slippier soles for this dancefloor.

Sunday Farewell Social

Time: 18:00 – 22:00
Venue: The Merchants’ Hall, Hanover St, Edinburgh, EH2 2EN
Band: Castle Rock Jazz Band

This is our last live band of the weekend so come and catch those last few dances with friends old and new and join us in saying goodbye.
